The Wheel provides sector-specific training and events to support professional development in the nonprofit sector, backed by the National Training Fund from the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science.
Overview
Our programmes include individual and organisational training, as well as leadership development for all career stages. Our strong focus on training and events helps over 2,700 nonprofit members, from large national service providers to small community groups with just one or two people.

Research and Impact
Our Research and Impact Programme
We are developing our Sector Skills Research Programme. This will outline our approach and priorities for the coming years. We are also devising an Impact Framework to monitor the impact of our NTF funded workforce development programmes.
Skills Research
A thriving sector relies on strong skills research. This research gives The Wheel the evidence it needs to spot workforce gaps and opportunities in Ireland’s community, voluntary and social enterprise sector. It ensures that training, funding and policy decisions are based on real experiences and data from those actively working in the field.
By investing in solid research, The Wheel boosts the sector’s voice, influences national skills policy, and helps create a more confident and capable workforce ready for the future.
Literacy Friendly Sector
Many adults in Ireland face literacy challenges, which can limit their ability to access services, training, or volunteering opportunities. The National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA) and The Wheel are working together to help organisations become more literacy-friendly, with free online resources to support your team
Open University Learning Hub
The Wheel, in partnership with The Open University, offers a free leadership development hub for Ireland’s nonprofit sector. This initiative aims to strengthen leadership skills in Ireland’s charity and community sector. This collaboration features a dedicated, free learning hub on The Open University’s OpenLearn platform.

Examples include dietary restrictions, requests for closed captions, Irish Sign Language interpretation, communications materials that are easy to read and to understand, whether you will bring a support person, if a service animal will attend, or a need for a wheelchair accessible venue.
We will treat any personal or medical information confidentially and will confirm arrangements with you before the event.
We’ll do our best to accommodate your requirements and ask that you provide at least one week’s notice to allow us time to do that.
We try to ensure that all venues for in-person events are wheelchair accessible, but on the rare occasion this isn’t possible, we will make that clear in the event details.
