Stronger Communities, Stronger Ireland: General Election 2020

Stronger Communities, Stronger Ireland

In Ireland, charities, community and voluntary organisations, and social enterprises provide essential services in areas such as health and disability, social care, education, housing, poverty relief, the arts and sport as well as contributing to international aid.

Our Stronger Communities, Stronger Ireland campaign shone a light on the vital contribution made by charities, community and voluntary organisations, and social enterprises in every constituency in Ireland.

Hundreds of people - those working and volunteering with charities, community and voluntary organisations, and social enterprises, and those who benefit from this work - rowed in behind the campaign and shared its message with candidates, friends and family, on the doors and on social media.

By the end of the campaign 207 candidates had signed our Stronger Communities, Stronger Ireland manifesto – 79 were elected to the 33rd Dail Eireann. This means that just shy of 50% of elected TDs united in their support for charities, community and voluntary organisations, and social enterprises by signing – that is almost enough to form a Government!

All candidates signed up in support of the following  four main asks:

  1. Recognise and supports the value the sector adds to society
  2. Support sustainable funding models
  3. Enable responsive services through streamlined compliance systems
  4. Embrace collaborative partnership working.
