It has been said that all the armies in the world cannot beat an idea whose time has come.
Yet somehow many, if not most, world leaders seem to believe that a vast chunk of the world economy should be allocated to the notion that someone, somewhere is your enemy, real, threatened or potential. Therefore, it’s a good idea to have lots of weapons to inflict pain, injury and death on these enemies before, after, or at the same time that they might try to do the same to you.
All the time ignoring the commandment that Moses allegedly brought down the mountain from God which says:
“Thou shalt not kill”.
Those who ignore this commandment, or state that it doesn’t apply to them, often claim that God is on their side in any conflict or war they find themselves embroiled in as some sort of justification for ignoring God’s previous directive!
The amount of money spent on the industrial, military complex annually could if reallocated solve world hunger, eradicate poverty and provide clean water for all.
As Ghandi said “There is enough in the world for everyone’s need but not for everyone’s greed.”
The idea that violence somehow causes peace is a truly bonkers yet very persistent one throughout the whole of recorded human history.
The view that might is right is a very attractive one if you happen to suffer from a bad dose of toxic masculinity for example, but it’s a very bad idea if you want to build sustainable and peaceful futures.
The mindset of beating, winning and conquering towards some illusory view of success is all pervading and extends into all aspects of our lives from the human race’s relationship with Nature (we think we can and should control and conquer it and while we’re at it lets have the Moon too) to all our relationships in all aspects of our lives including family, personal, social, economics, education, religion and Community.
We all know the saying that you don’t add fuel to the fire if you want to put it out.
Therefore you don’t add conflict to any conflict if you want it to end.
Peace is not the absence of war, but an essence, presence and state that belongs with what it truly means to be human and and is derived from our shared humanity. War however, is definitely the absence of peace for those who are on the receiving end of the worst idea ever – that war, violence and conflict are somehow the solution to our differences.
Focusing on practical, sustainable and fair solutions offers pathways away from a series of bad ideas that led to conflict in the first place.
In this free Webinar we shall be looking at the power, potency and portent of ideas and how changing our ideas of people, places and conflicts can turn apparently intractable problems into opportunities for change.
Can we reframe the future instead of framing each other about the past?
Yes we can if we let need not greed lead.
And that has to be a good idea!
All are welcome and hopefully it will be an interesting and enjoyable process together with some light bulb moments along the way.
