Part-Time Heritage Guide X 2 positions
Location: Mercy International Centre, Baggot Street, Dublin
Reports to: Head of Heritage and Spirituality
Hours & contract: Part-time hours (between 15-25 hours per week including occasional weekends and events) - fixed term contract
Role Purpose
The Heritage Guide plays an important role in welcoming visitors to Catherine McAuley’s House of Mercy and sharing the story, values, and heritage of the Mercy tradition. The role combines hospitality, storytelling, and visitor engagement to ensure that all guests experience a warm welcome and meaningful visit at the Mercy International Centre.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome visitors, pilgrims, tourists, schools, and groups to the Centre in a friendly and professional manner.
- Provide guided tours of Catherine McAuley’s House of Mercy and related heritage spaces.
- Share the history, mission, and legacy of Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy in an engaging and accessible way.
- Create a hospitable and reflective atmosphere for visitors from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Assist visitors with orientation, information, and general enquiries.
- Support the smooth day-to-day operation of the visitor experience, including opening and closing duties where required.
- Help prepare spaces for tours, events, and hospitality activities.
- Encourage respectful engagement with the heritage, spiritual, and historical significance of the Centre.
- Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and the wider Mercy community.
- Maintain awareness of visitor safety and safeguarding procedures.
Person Specification
Essential
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Warm, welcoming, and hospitable manner.
- Interest in history, heritage, spirituality, or cultural storytelling.
- Ability to engage confidently with individuals and groups of different ages and nationalities.
- Reliability, flexibility, and ability to work as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
Desirable
- Experience in guiding, tourism, hospitality, education, or customer service.
- Knowledge of Catherine McAuley, the Sisters of Mercy, or Irish social history.
- Experience working in a museum, heritage, cultural, or faith-based environment.
- Additional language skills would be an advantage.
