Senior Occupational Therapist

The post holder will be responsible for developing, managing and delivering a high-quality Occupational Therapy service as part of GSC.

                                                         SENIOR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST

This initiative is supported and funded by HSE social inclusion, Dept of Health and the Women’s Health Taskforce to improve outcomes for Women with Insecure and/or unsuitable Housing Conditions.

Applications are invited for the above position based in Good Shepherd Cork (GSC). GSC provides a range of services for women, children and families who are homeless and vulnerable to homelessness. The post holder will be responsible for developing, managing and delivering a high-quality Occupational Therapy service as part of GSC within established professional standards, guidelines and policy. The post will be based at Baile an Aoire, GSC’s long-term supported housing project in Montenotte, Cork, and will provide OT support across a number of GSC services.

Summary of key role and responsibilities

  • Manage own caseload and be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes for service users and maintenance of standards of practice of self/staff.
  • Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front line managers, and other relevant healthcare personnel.
  • Ensure the quality of documentation of assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries in accordance with local service and professional standards and communicate results and recommendations of assessments, treatment plans etc. to relevant personnel. 
  • Attend clinics, review meetings, team meetings, case conferences etc. as agreed with Manager.
  • Be responsible for adhering to existing standards and protocols and for the development and maintenance of standards / strategies for quality improvement and outcome measurement.
  • Ensure professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation.
  • Operate within the scope of Occupational Therapy practice within Ireland and in accordance with local guidelines.

Essential Requirements

  • Be registered, or be eligible for registration, on the Occupational Therapists Register maintained by the Occupational Therapists Registration Board at CORU. Provide proof of Registration.
  • Have three years full time (or an aggregate of 3 years fulltime) post qualification clinical experience.
  • Have the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management, leadership and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
  • Have awareness and passion for providing a service to marginalised communities who have experienced multiple adverse childhood experiences and to drive the development of an Occupational Therapy service in this developing area of support within homelessness services.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience working in mental health, or other services as relevant to the role. A primary care background would also be advantageous.
