COPE Galway are looking for a detail-oriented Management Accountant role supporting financial reporting, controls, and decision-making.

Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented Management Accountant to support high-quality financial reporting, strong financial controls, and effective decision-making across the organisation. The role includes preparing monthly management accounts, performing reconciliations, and overseeing income and expenditure, including grants and fundraising.

The successful candidate will support day-to-day finance operations, including accounts payable, payroll, and expense reviews, while ensuring compliance with policies and controls. They will also assist with budgeting, manage the annual audit process, and liaise with funders to meet reporting requirements.

Working closely with the finance team, this role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to continuous improvement and organisational success.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Control

  • Preparation  monthly management accounts
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations
  • Review of grant and fundraising income and expenditure
  • Review bank reconciliations
  • Maintain the fixed asset register
  • Support the annual budget preparation process 

Financial Operations

  • Support the accounts payable function, including reviewing and processing payments
  • Post payroll journals and assist with payroll processing where required
  • Conduct weekly cash counts
  • Review and process staff travel expenses in line with organisational policies
  • Maintain and support the organisation’s accounting system and purchase order approval system
  • Provide assistance and cover within the finance team as required
  • Liaise with State Funders to ensure all income is received by the organisation and all required reports are submitted to the funders in a timely manner.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial systems and processes

Audit and Compliance

  • Manage the annual external financial audit process
  • Maintain the financial policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with financial controls and governance standards 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with the Head of Finance, Finance Manager and finance team to review financial information and address queries
  • Respond to finance-related queries from staff across the organisation

What we are looking for

Experience

  • Experience in financial accounting, reporting, and reconciliations
  • Experience working with accounts payable processes and financial controls
  • Experience supporting external audits
  • Experience using accounting software, ideally Xero accounting software
  • Experience processing and supporting payroll is desirable but not essential

Qualifications

  • A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or equivalent)
