About Proudly Made in Africa

Proudly Made in Africa (PMIA) is an Irish-based Global Citizenship Education and Trade Justice organisation dedicated to promoting responsible business with and in Africa.

Founded in 2008, PMIA works to change the narrative on Africa from aid and charity to innovation, entrepreneurship, responsible trade and shared value creation. Through lectures, conferences, workshops, research collaborations and partnerships, PMIA brings African scholars, experts, entrepreneurs and perspectives into Irish universities and business leadership circles.

PMIA has delivered hundreds of lectures across Irish third-level institutions, reaching thousands of students and supporting a new generation of business leaders to engage with Africa in a fair, sustainable and informed way.

The Opportunity

This is a rare opportunity to lead a respected Irish-based organisation working at the intersection of Africa, education, responsible business and global citizenship.

PMIA is entering a new phase of strategic development and is seeking an entrepreneurial and relationship-driven Executive Director to strengthen partnerships, expand funding, deepen educational impact and grow PMIA’s national and international profile.

The successful candidate will inherit a well-established platform with strong university relationships, recognised credibility within the Irish Global Citizenship Education sector and significant potential for future growth.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Strategic Leadership
  • Lead the implementation and evolution of PMIA’s strategic plan and organisational vision.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with universities, funding partners, corporates, African scholars and civil society stakeholders.
  • Support and strengthen PMIA’s reputation as a respected voice on responsible business and Africa.
  • Work closely with the Board to ensure strong governance and organisational accountability.

     

  1. Lead Fundraising and Resource Mobilization Efforts
  • PMIA is entering a new phase of organisational growth and development and is seeking to strengthen its long-term financial sustainability, expand strategic partnerships and diversify income sources in support of increased programme impact and organisational resilience.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with key funders including Irish Aid, UCD and Concern Worldwide. 
  • Develop new funding streams and strategic partnerships. 
  • Prepare grant applications, donor reports and partnership proposals. 
  • Oversee budgets, cashflow management and financial planning. 

     
  1. Programme Leadership & Delivery
  • Oversee PMIA’s flagship education and engagement programmes.
  • Support PMIA Fellows and educators to deliver high-quality programmes.
  • Support conferences, lectures, workshops and stakeholder engagement activities.

     
  1. Communications & External Relations
  • Represent PMIA at conferences, events and stakeholder forums.
  • Build PMIA’s profile across education, business and development sectors.
  • Support strategic communications and storytelling.
  • Oversee annual reporting and stakeholder communications.

     
  1. Governance & Operations
  • Support the Board and prepare board reports and board packs.
  • Ensure compliance with Charity Regulator and CRO obligations.
  • Maintain organisational policies, procedures and risk management systems.
  • Oversee operational systems including finance, IT and administration.
  • Manage contractors, fellows, interns and external service providers.

Application Details

The Candidate: 

Essential:

• At least 5 years’ senior leadership or management experience.
• Strong fundraising, partnership development or business development experience.
• Excellent communication, networking and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience managing budgets, reporting and organisational operations.
• Strong organisational and project management skills.
• Demonstrated commitment to responsible business, sustainability, education, Africa or international development.

Desirable:

• Experience in the charity, social enterprise or international development sector.
• Understanding of Global Citizenship Education.
• Knowledge of Africa-related business, trade or development issues.
• Experience working with Irish Aid or institutional grant funding.
• Existing networks within Irish higher education, ESG, sustainability or Africa-related sectors.

Terms & Conditions

• Independent contractor consultancy agreement
• Competitive consulting package, commensurate with experience
• Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
• Start date: 14 July 2026
• Some evening and occasional weekend work required
• Some domestic and international travel may be required
• No pension contribution applies to this consultancy arrangement
• Consultant responsible for their own tax affairs
• PMIA educational activities are currently VAT exempt under Irish legislation relating to education services
• Initial fixed-term contract with potential renewal subject to funding and performance
• 25 days annual leave pro rata plus Irish public holidays
