When Truths Collide, Conflict Ensues. When Truths Agree, Solutions Appear. Magic! Free Zoom Webinar on Wednesday, 26 August at 7 - 8.30pm.

The truth is the truth right. No ifs, buts, or maybe? Well maybe!

The grass is green and the sky is blue we can all agree on that can’t we?

Well, no not really, because we all have different experiences across different cultures and languages when we describe our experiences of those colours. Some people who are red / green colour blind for example see something completely different and people who are fully blind see nothing at all.

Are people who see those and other things differently “wrong”?

Or simply different?

To one degree or another we all have our own versions of colour blindness or full blindness where the truth is concerned.

For example, the expression – My country / religion / politics right or wrong – suggests that the preferred “truth” can be on occasion something that is clearly wrong.

One doesn’t have to look far in what is happening in the world currently to see that sometimes truth and right and wrong are not on the same page.

Or on certain social media sites where the word “Truth” should contain a health warning – no Truth to be found here!

Can two apparently opposite truths exist within the one reality?

Charles Dickens clearly thought so in writing one of the best opening paragraphs to a novel in a Tale of Two Cities.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way.

Gosh was that really written 167 years ago and not last week?

In conflict, because we have different needs, stories, values, fears, perceptions and interests we find different truths to justify our differing positions. Sometimes we genuinely believe those truths and sometimes we simply make up an alternate truth because the actual truth is simply too hard to admit to.

And as Aeschylus in ancient Greece so wisely said:

In war, truth is the first casualty.

It is little wonder therefore that truths often collide.

So, when they do and conflict ensues, can we move beyond the “truths” that divide and harm us, and discover better truths that lead to remedy, restoration, and reconciliation?

Yes, there are and in this free Webinar we shall be looking at practical ways to move from the lower truths of criticism and conflict towards finding the higher truths of collaboration and co-operation and thus a better and more sustainable future for all.

There is always a transcendent truth that exists above all conflicts and that’s where the magic lies if we believe and suspend our disbelief in the situation and each other.

Let’s hope we find something to believe in on the Webinar! 😊

All are welcome and hopefully it will be an interesting and enjoyable process together with some light bulb moments along the way.
