Today, Friday 27 June, is Your Council Day 2025 – the national Day to promote and celebrate the vital work of local government across Ireland.
We’re inviting all local authority partners and collaborators to join us in highlighting the impact of local government by sharing your stories, projects, and partnerships online throughout the day. Use the hashtags #YourCouncilDay and #DoLáSaChomhairle to be part of the national conversation.

Led by the LGMA and supported by all 31 local authorities, today is about showcasing the essential services councils provide and the positive difference they make in communities, businesses, and people’s lives.
To mark Your Council Day, Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, John Cummins states: “Our local authorities play a vital role in the daily lives of people and communities across the country.
From delivering essential services to supporting vulnerable residents, maintaining local infrastructure, and fostering economic development, the work they do is both wide-ranging and deeply impactful. As Minister for Local Government, I want to recognise and thank our local authority staff, councillors, and partners for their dedication and commitment. Their efforts are essential not only to the functioning of local areas but to the overall social and economic wellbeing of our nation.”
Chair of the County and City Management Association (CCMA), Anna Marie Delaney states: “The work of our county and city councils is integral to building stronger communities across Ireland. We offer more than 1,000 services that impact on everyone’s daily lives. This ranges from street cleaning, roads, housing, planning and development to dog wardens, the fire service, arts and heritage services, and tourism and events. These services are provided by teams of dedicated local authority staff. Your Council Day is an opportunity to highlight and celebrate the work they do to support our communities and to increase awareness of the essential role our local authorities play.”
