Royal Irish Academy Disinformation Research Grant 2026 Now Open for Applications

Posted on 12 Jun 2026

As part of the commitments made under the National Counter Disinformation Strategy, the Royal Irish Academy (RIA) is inviting applications for the new Disinformation Research Grant, supported by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport.

The scheme will support nuanced, collaborative research on different aspects of disinformation, involving research across multiple disciplines and networks.

Media Literacy Ireland (MLI) welcomes this focus on collaborative research on different aspects of disinformation. If you are considering making an application for this funding, you might also consider approaching MLI in an advisory capacity, e.g. to help you identify other potential partners/collaborators. If your research is funded, MLI may be able to support with concept testing, promotion and results dissemination and anything else that falls reasonably within the MLI remit. MLI may also be able to offer a letter of support for appropriate projects.

However, applicants should note that MLI will not be able to be act as an official partner on any bid, or receive any funding from any bid. Neither can we provide any services or support in any exclusive way as we may be helping other applicants in a similar way. We will not discuss bids or proposals with other applicants.

If you would like to get in touch with MLI, please email info@medialiteracyireland.ie

Further details of the scheme are provided on the RIA website here and any queries can be directed to grants@ria.ie.
