Summary:
Graham O’Doherty and Jessica Ransley will be giving an introduction to the law of defamation (formerly known as libel & slander), including the key principles and defences, by reference to some examples you may have heard of in the news. They will also offer some guidance on steps which you or your organisations could take, so as to minimise the risk of being sued for defamation. They will discuss the liability of social media platforms for defamatory content contained on their platforms, and plan to offer a flavour of the defamation reforms which are currently on the horizon.
