The Big Think - What do people with disabilities in Ireland think researchers should explore in future? (A ‘Creating Our Future’ event)

Date: Tuesday 23 November, 2021

Time: 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

Location: Online Zoom Webinar

The National Disability Authority would like to invite you to attend a brainstorm event on ideas for future research in Ireland. An Easy to Read invitation is attached, and an ISL invitation can be found on the NDA YouTube channel. We would like to hear your ideas and pass them on to the government as part of their ‘Creating Our Future’ project. All ideas are welcome. We would like to hear from disabled persons organisations and individuals with disabilities.

What is ‘Creating Our Future’?

'Creating Our Future' is a chance for everyone in Ireland to tell the government their research ideas to help make our country better for everyone. Research is the study of a topic, problem, concern or issue. We often do research to discover new facts or information and to solve problems. Research affects nearly every part of our lives. It influences health and well-being, the environment and climate change, education, employment, our standard of living, and improves the inclusion of all people in our society. Ideas are the starting point for all research.

What kind of ideas?

We want to hear your ideas about what research should be done to help you, your family, your friends or your community. We are specifically inviting people with disabilities to this event to make sure that their views are included in this national project. However, all ideas are welcome and will be captured even if they are not specifically to do with disability. No idea is too big or too small. There are no bad ideas.

What will happen at this event?

We will break into small groups where you will have time to think and tell us your ideas. The NDA will collect all of your ideas, summarise them, and send them to the ‘Creating Our Future’ team. Your name will not be attached to the ideas. The NDA will also refer to the ideas when we are planning our own research.

What do I need to do?

If you would like to attend, please register at your earliest convenience as numbers may be limited depending on the level of interest. The registration form will also ask you about your accessibility needs. Both Irish Sign Language interpretation and real-time captioning will be available at this event.

Please share this invitation with others who may be interested in taking part.

Don’t want to attend this event but still want to share your ideas?

You can submit your ideas directly to the ‘Creating our Future’ project using this form on their website. For more information, please go to https://creatingourfuture.ie/
