Community Garden Volunteer

SICCDA is seeking a local volunteer who is interested in helping with SICCDA’s community garden allotment for the Spring and Summer 2022 growing season. The ideal volunteer will have experience and knowledge of planning, planting, maintaining and harvesting fruit and vegetables in an allotment setting as well as be willing to support our weekly gardening group, offering them guidance on best practices.

Location: South Earl Street, The Liberties, Dublin 8

Reporting to: SICCDA Community Development Team

Time Commitment: To be arranged, but estimated 2-4 hours a week (additional access to the allotment is available).

Purpose: 

  1. To maintain, develop and protect our community garden.
  2. To occasionally lead small groups in the allotment to assist with weeding, planting, harvesting or to generally learn a bit more about the space.
  3. To guide our community garden group with information and expertise on growing and managing an allotment.

Overall Responsibility:

  • Plant, weed, and harvest in the community allotment
  • Looking after garden machinery and equipment 
  • Being a friendly face for visitors to the garden answering any questions they may have
  • Occasionally lead small groups to work in the allotment

The Volunteer: 

  • Experience with gardening and willingness to take the lead on the allotment
  • Willing to work with community garden groups and other team members 
  • Commitment to tending to the garden for the season
  • Follow allotment contract and safety guidelines

Training and Support:

  • All gardening tools, seeds and equipment will be provided
  • Opportunities to attend relevant trainings and development events if interested
