Autumn 2022 Seminar on The Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare, 23 Nov

Posted on 23 Nov 2022

The Irish Social Policy Association is delighted to host our autumn 2022 seminar on: The Report of the Commission on Taxation and Welfare on Wed, 23 Nov at 6pm to 8pm.

Venue: Carmelite Community Centre, 56 Aungier St., Dublin (ground floor room on left as you enter)

As Ireland copes with the challenges of funding services for a rapidly-ageing population, plans introduction of a National Health Service under the Sláintecare reforms, and meets the challenge of climate change, public spending will need to rise as a share of national income. The Commission's Report examines how we fund public services in the medium term, and what changes are needed in the social welfare system.

Our speakers are:

  • Dr Colm O'Reardon, Secretary to the Commission
  • Dr Tom McDonnell, Director Nevin Economic Research Unit and member of the Commission.

Speakers will talk about the tax and welfare proposals.

Our respondents are:

  • Rosheen Callender, formerly Economist and Equality officer with SIPTU
  • Professor Mary Murphy, University College Maynooth.
