Funding Available for UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty
The annual United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is held on 17 October. Each year, the department supports small public awareness initiatives organised by community and voluntary groups to promote awareness of the Day. Applications are now open for funding for UN Day 2026 projects, with a closing date of 14 August 2026.
Funding is open to eligible organisations working with people experiencing poverty at a national or local level. Approved applications include projects involving children, people with disabilities, women’s groups and minority groups. A broad range of activities will be considered for funding, including artistic and cultural events, exhibitions, public talks and community workshops.
The Department of Social Protection is providing additional funding this year to support anti-poverty groups to organise activities to promote awareness of the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty in the context of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This reflects the Presidency priorities of competitiveness, security and values (www.Ireland2026.eu). Social inclusion initiatives strengthen the quality of life and standard of living of people in Ireland.
