ROLE OVERVIEW

As Policy & Advocacy Officer, your principal role will be to support IGBC’s campaigns for a more sustainable built environment, including a large-scale campaign to decarbonise Ireland’s built environment across its whole life cycle, Building Life II. This role requires excellent research, communication and interpersonal skills, and it is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain experience in policy, advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and project management, within the sustainability sector.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of the contracted advocacy requirements of the Building Life II project, and other IGBC’s campaigns. 
  • Build and nurture relationships with a range of stakeholders, including IGBC members, government officials, policy makers, professional bodies, and researchers. 
  • Develop ideas for and executing campaigns that successfully engage with the building industry, policymakers and other stakeholders
  • Liaise internally and externally with relevant subject matter experts (e.g., Whole Life Carbon and energy renovation), including through the organisation and delivery of workshops, to support evidence-based policy work.
  • Use research and analysis skills to develop high quality reports and submissions. 
  • Contribute to identifying funding opportunities and developing funding proposals to support IGBC’s advocacy work. 
  • Keep excellent records of all outreach of activities and draft reports to funding bodies.

Qualifications and Experience required

Education

  • Ideally 3rd level degree with a preference for sustainability, political science, or public administration related qualification.

Experience & Skills

Required:

  • Experienced in researching and analysing large quantities of information to support the development of evidence-based policy positions, and to present them in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation and report writing. 
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organised with a good attention to details, and able to work to tight deadlines. 
  • Self-starter but with excellent team working abilities.
  • Willingness to learn and develop within the role.

Desirable

  • Experienced engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, including policymakers, government officials, industry and researchers.
  • Experience of workshop organisation/management
  • Project management experience
  • Experience in the Irish construction and property sector, and/or knowledge of sustainability in the built environment. 
  • Experience in developing national, philanthropic and EU funded proposals.

What we offer

  • Starting salary range €29,500 - €33,000 depending on experience reviewed annually.
  • 23 days annual leave rising to 28 after 7 years.

This will be initially a two-year fixed contract with a six-month probationary period which can be extended.
