Operations Lead

BFBI is growing fast. Build our operations from the ground up as an independent, hands-on leader shaping how Ireland's nature-positive economy runs.

Operations Lead

Business for Biodiversity Ireland | Contractor | Fully Remote (Ireland-based) | 12 days per month | €350 day rate

About Business for Biodiversity Ireland

Business for Biodiversity Ireland (BFBI) is a not-for-profit social enterprise, established with seed funding from the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine as part of the 3rd National Biodiversity Action Plan. We are Ireland's national platform helping businesses transition to nature-positive ways of working.

About the Role

BFBI is growing. What started as a small project team is scaling into a structured organisation with a growing team of contractors, a widening portfolio of programmes, and increasingly complex funder and partner relationships. We're looking for an Operations Lead who can build the operational backbone this growth demands.

This is not a maintenance role. Many of the systems, processes and structures BFBI needs don't yet exist — you'll be building them from the ground up, not just running what's already in place. You'll move fluidly between strategic thinking and hands-on delivery, and as BFBI grows, we expect this role — and the person in it — to grow too.

You'll report directly to the Executive Director, work closely with the Board on governance matters, and take day-to-day operational leadership of a growing team of contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the day-to-day running of the organisation, and design and implement the operational policies, systems and infrastructure BFBI needs to scale
  • Lead budget planning, financial reporting and grant management — including proactively identifying new grant funding opportunities and leading applications
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding and HR administration for a growing team of contractors
  • Support the Board and Executive Director on governance, compliance and reporting requirements
  • Support delivery of BFBI's programmes and partnerships, including the development of new initiatives
  • Manage stakeholder, funder and partner relationships, including a CRM system (HubSpot preferred)

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in a senior operations role, ideally having built processes and systems from scratch
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership, and deliver reliably and on time
  • Experience with budget management, financial administration and grant funding (including researching opportunities and preparing applications)
  • Experience with CRM systems (HubSpot a plus) and accounting software (Sage a plus)
  • Working knowledge of non-profit or charity governance and compliance requirements
  • A genuine interest in biodiversity, sustainability or the nature-positive business agenda
