BACKGROUND

The Irish Red Cross (IRC) is part of a global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which includes national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in 190 countries, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent (IFRC), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The purpose of IRC’s international activities is to prevent and alleviate human suffering by increasing and strengthen humanitarian impact and resilience of vulnerable people. 

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE

The main purpose of this internship is to support all policy related activities of the Irish Red Cross Migration department with a particular focus on IRC engagement around the EU presidency and planning an associated event. The internship will comprise a number of tasks, decided in conjunction with the migration department, and on the basis of the needs of the department and the experience, competencies and interests of the intern.

EXPECTED TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are indicative, and further tasks and responsibilities not mentioned may occur.

• Provide support around the logistical aspects of the event.
• Support with keeping abreast of Oireachtas debates and Parliamentary Questions related to Migration.
• Support other migration advocacy initiatives and development of advocacy and policy material.

Due to the nature of our work, priorities may change quickly. The foregoing points are intended to describe the duties and responsibilities that the appointee will be expected to undertake in this position. It should not be regarded as a complete and exhaustive list and does not prevent the addition, alteration or deletion of duties from time to time in accordance with the needs of Irish Red Cross. Any changes will be upon mutual agreement.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

• Demonstrated knowledge of migration policy evidenced through formal study at undergraduate or postgraduate level.
• A high level of oral and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, and good judgement.
• Familiarity with social media and communication strategies.
• Experience in event organising and management.
• Good administrative, organisational and computer skills.

Title: Migration Policy Project Intern (PAID)

Contract: 2 days a week (to be agreed) September to December 2026

Working hours: 09.30 – 16.30 GMT (hours are flexible and can be adjusted according to candidates’ availability)
