Marketing and Communications Manager

We are seeking a Marketing and Communications manager to manage the delivery of AsIAm's marketing, communications, brand, digital and content activity.

AsIAm is Ireland’s Autism Charity based in Blackrock, Co. Dublin.  AsIAm is a fast paced, growing organisation with a vision to create a society where every autistic person is accepted “as they are” – equal, valued, and respected.  The organisation’s purpose is to advocate for an inclusive society for Autistic people that is accessible, accepted and affirming.  AsIAm works to support the Autistic community and our families to fully engage in Irish life and build the capacity of society to facilitate true inclusion.

The Role:

The Marketing and Communications Manager will play a key operational leadership role within AsIAm’s Fundraising, Marketing and External Affairs Department. Reporting to the Head of Department, the postholder will manage the day-to-day delivery of AsIAm’s marketing, communications, brand, digital and content activity.

The role requires someone who can balance strategic understanding with strong operational delivery. The person will be responsible for ensuring communications are well planned, coordinated, timely, accessible, neuro-affirmative and aligned with AsIAm’s mission, values, tone of voice and strategic priorities. The postholder will support the implementation of AsIAm’s marketing and communications strategy and will coordinate communications activity across campaigns, events, services, fundraising, training, accreditation, policy, advocacy and organisational work.

The successful candidate will be highly organised, confident managing competing priorities, skilled in team coordination and able to translate organisational objectives into clear communications plans and outputs.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Management

  • Manage the day-to-day delivery of marketing and communications activity across the organisation.
  • Coordinate communications requests from departments and translate them into clear plans, timelines and outputs.
  • Manage workflows, approvals, deadlines and delivery schedules.
  • Act as the first point of operational contact for internal departments seeking communications support.
  • Support a culture of planning, accountability, quality control and continuous improvement.

Brand, Tone of Voice and Messaging

  • Ensure communications align with AsIAm’s mission, values, tone of voice and visual identity.
  • Provide guidance on brand use, including logo, colour, fonts, templates, messaging and accessibility.
  • Support the rollout of AsIAm’s tone of voice and marketing strategy across the organisation.
  • Review content to ensure it is neuro-affirmative, respectful, inclusive and accessible.
  • Ensure consistent messaging across campaigns, reports, services, social media, website, email marketing and stakeholder communications.

Communications Planning

  • Lead the coordination of the organisation-wide communications calendar.
  • Work with department leads to agree communications priorities, timings and requirements.
  • Ensure external messages are planned and coordinated, avoiding unnecessary overlap or message fatigue.
  • Support a balanced mix of awareness, advocacy, fundraising, service promotion, training, events and impact storytelling.
  • Identify busy periods, messaging risks, capacity pressures and opportunities for improved planning.

Campaigns, Events and Project Communications

  • Develop communications plans with clear objectives, audiences, messages, channels, timelines and deliverables.
  • Support departments to promote events, services, training, fundraising campaigns, advocacy work and community initiatives.
  • Coordinate communications for major campaigns, launches, reports and events.
  • Manage timelines for campaign assets, web updates, email marketing, social media, press activity and stakeholder communications.
  • Ensure post-campaign evaluation is completed and key learnings are captured.

Digital Communications and Content

  • Oversee AsIAm’s website content, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, up to date and user-friendly.
  • Manage social media planning and ensure content aligns with the wider communications calendar.
  • Oversee email marketing, including newsletters, campaign emails and stakeholder updates.
  • Support the development and promotion of digital publications, resources, reports and toolkits.
  • Ensure online content follows accessibility best practice and supports clear user journeys.

Social Media Management

  • Manage the social media content calendar across platforms.
  • Ensure content is timely, engaging, accessible and aligned with brand and tone of voice.
  • Balance organisational priorities across awareness, advocacy, fundraising, services, training, events and stakeholder engagement.
  • Monitor performance and recommend improvements.
  • Support appropriate responses to social media queries, comments and emerging issues, escalating sensitive or reputational matters where required.

Content Development and Editorial Oversight

  • Draft, edit and review communications content across a range of channels.
  • Support the development of speeches, press materials, web copy, campaign copy, newsletters, donor communications and stakeholder updates.
  • Translate complex policy, service, research or organisational information into clear and accessible language.
  • Work with colleagues to identify strong stories that demonstrate AsIAm’s impact.
  • Support the ethical use of stories, images, quotes and case studies, ensuring consent processes are followed.

Media, PR and Reputation Support

  • Support the drafting and coordination of press releases, media statements, briefing notes and media responses.
  • Assist with media planning around launches, campaigns, reports and events.
  • Coordinate media materials, spokesperson briefings, photography and partner approvals.
  • Monitor media coverage and support reporting on reach, engagement and impact.
  • Support the Head of Department in managing sensitive or reactive communications.

Analytics, Reporting and Evaluation

  • Monitor performance across social media, website, email, digital campaigns and online resources.
  • Use analytics to evaluate reach, engagement, conversions, audience growth and campaign effectiveness.
  • Prepare regular reports for the Head of Department and senior colleagues.
  • Identify trends, risks, opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Support data-informed decision-making across marketing and communications activity.

Team Management

  • Line manage communications staff as agreed with the Head of Department.
  • Provide regular supervision, guidance, feedback and support.
  • Support team members to manage priorities and workloads effectively.
  • Ensure staff have clear objectives, deadlines and project responsibilities.
  • Conduct appraisals in line with organisational policies and procedures.
  • Support a positive, inclusive, neuro-affirmative and accountable team culture.

Governance, Compliance and Risk

  • Ensure communications meet appropriate governance standards and organisational policies.
  • Support compliance with GDPR, consent, copyright, charity regulation, accessibility and safeguarding requirements.
  • Support the safe and ethical use of images, personal stories, testimonials and lived experience content.
  • Identify reputational risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
  • Maintain appropriate records of approvals, permissions and campaign materials.

Key Requirements

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Significant experience in marketing, communications, PR, digital communications or brand management.
  • Experience managing communications activity in a charity, advocacy, public sector, education, health, disability or social impact setting.
  • Experience supervising or managing staff.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Strong understanding of brand, tone of voice, messaging and audience segmentation.
  • Experience managing social media channels, websites, email marketing and digital content.
  • Ability to interpret analytics and use data to improve performance.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience developing communications plans for campaigns, events, services, reports or launches.
  • Understanding of accessibility, inclusive communications and plain English.
  • Strong judgement, particularly around sensitive communications and reputational risk.
  • Commitment to neuro-affirmative practice and inclusion.
  • Understanding of the issues affecting Autistic people and their families, or a willingness to learn.
  • Full driver’s license and own vehicle as regular local and national travel is required.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working in an Autism, disability, advocacy, health, education or charity environment.
  • Experience supporting media relations or PR activity.
  • Experience with fundraising communications or donor engagement.
  • Experience managing external suppliers such as designers, agencies, photographers, videographers or printers.
  • Experience using tools such as WordPress, Mailchimp, Canva, Meta Business Suite, LinkedIn, Google Analytics, Google Ads or CRM systems.
  • Experience developing accessible digital content.
  • Experience working with people with lived experience in a respectful and ethical way.

Contract Duration:

This is a 1-year Fixed Term Contract, with the potential to be extended, subject to funding. 

Salary and Benefits:

Salary will align with Grade V of the HSE Consolidated Pay Scale. In addition, we offer:

Working Hours:

The role is fulltime and working hours are typically Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with some flexibility around start and finish times.

The role holder is required to have a significant degree of flexibility regarding working hours with the expectation of some evening and weekend work.

Location:

The role is based in AsIAm HQ in Blackrock, Co. Dublin.  Hybrid working arrangements can be facilitated in discussion with the line manager.
