The Opportunity
The Wheel is seeking a skilled and motivated Communications and Marketing Officer to join our team.
The role will contribute to strengthening The Wheel’s public profile, promoting programmes and services, supporting advocacy and policy work, and ensuring clear, consistent and engaging communications with members, partners and other stakeholders.
Working closely with the Communications Manager and colleagues across the organisation, the post holder will be responsible for producing high-quality content, managing digital channels, supporting campaigns and events, and helping to ensure that The Wheel’s communications reflect its values, strategic priorities and leadership position within the sector.

The Role
Position: Communications & Marketing Officer
Location: Grantham St, Dublin, hybrid
The Wheel operates a hybrid work environment, with a blend of remote and in-person work. This role requires a minimum 2 days per week in our Dublin office
Note that only candidates based in and authorized to work in Ireland will be considered.
Reporting to: Communications & Marketing Manager
ROLE PURPOSE & RELATIONSHIPS
The primary purpose of this role is to provide communications and marketing support to various teams and programmes across the organisation.
Working closely with the Communications Manager, the successful candidate will play a key role in developing and implementing strategies to promote our programmes, grow our organisation’s reach and build our brand.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating high-impact written and visual content for a variety of projects, programmes and campaigns.
The Communications and Marketing Officer is a member of the Operations Team and reports to the Communications Manager.
The post-holder will also need to develop and maintain positive professional relationships with colleagues, partners and the members of The Wheel.
MAIN RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES
Communication and Marketing Support
- Support the Communications Manager in developing and implementing the organisation's communications and marketing strategies
- Provide communications and marketing support, training and advice to colleagues across the organisation
- Assist with the conceptualisation and implementation of marketing plans for programmes, projects, events and advocacy campaigns
- Work with internal teams to develop communications plans for projects and programmes
- Assist with the development of promotional materials, including brochures, graphics, presentations and video content (working with designers or external suppliers as required)
- Ensure consistency of messaging, tone of voice and brand across all communications
Digital Marketing
- Plan, create and schedule content for social media channels, monitoring performance and engagement
- Create and implement digital marketing campaigns to promote events, programmes, membership and advocacy initiatives
- Design visual assets for events, programmes and campaigns
- Track and analyse social media and other digital marketing metrics to inform content development and improve reach and impact
Publications and Marketing
- Copy-edit and proofread documents, online content and publications
- Write high-quality copy for a wide for a range of audiences, including members, stakeholders, policymakers and the general public
- Liaise with external printers and designers to produce high-quality publications and marketing materials such as flyers, brochures, and visual displays
- Other
- Lead the production of a series of podcasts
- Provide administration support as required
- Other duties relevant to the role and as support requirements arise
Essential Criteria
- A relevant third-level qualification in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English
- A strong record of producing high-quality written and visual content
- Proficiency in managing social media channels
- Experience in managing or updating websites
Desirable Criteria
- Experience in using graphic design software such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience in podcast and video production would be advantageous
- Basic knowledge of website CMS and HTML
- Some knowledge of Salesforce CRM would be advantageous.
- Not-for-profit experience (either as a volunteer or in paid employment)
Person Specification

You will have exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.
You will be creative with an eye for detail and quality design.
You will be self-motivated and be able to engage and build relationships with a range of external stakeholders.
You will have a proven ability to multi-task and work on several projects simultaneously.
You will be passionate about positive social change achieved through community and voluntary action.

Key information about this role
- This is a permanent position.
- This contract is for a 36-hour week , and the salary is payable monthly in arrears
- The pay band for Officer-level posts in The Wheel is €33,880- €45,837. We anticipate that the salary for this role will be within the lower quartile of that band.
- The Wheel both offers and expects flexibility in terms of hours and location of work for a role such as this, and the remuneration and benefits package offered reflects this
- This role requires the post holder to attend in-person meetings in Dublin and elsewhere regularly
- Additionally, the role may require participation in meetings which can occur in the evenings and on weekends. The Wheel’s Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) policy applies to this position.
- Travel outside of the office is reimbursed according to our expense policy.
The Wheel offers the following benefits in addition to salary:
- A 6% employers' contribution to a company contributory pension scheme (subject to a 4% employee contribution)
