Employment Type: Part Time, fixed term contract for one year
Salary: €15 p/h
20 hours per month October to March (inc)
20 hours per week April to September (inc)
Reports to: Bee8 Operations Manager
Job Context:
The Liberties Community Project’s Bee8 Inner City Beekeeping Project is an environmental and community initiative designed to promote urban biodiversity and create accessible education and employment opportunities in The Liberties. The project manages 45 beehives and planting projects across 14 urban locations and delivers a variety of educational outputs to community and school groups across Dublin.
The Bee8 Operative will work within this context working in partnership with host organisations and providing care, management and monitoring of Bee8’s hives and planting projects to ensure healthy, thriving hives.
As part of the Liberties Community Project team, the Bee8 operative will work closely with the Bee8 Operations Manager as well as the wider The Liberties Community Project team and partners.
Principal Tasks:
• Maintain assigned urban bee hives, ensuring the health & wellbeing, of bee populations
• Ensure assigned sites are safe, tidy and properly equipped & proactively manage risks
• Support community engagement and education, delivering demonstrations, talks and practical learning sessions
• Engage with training opportunities offered by Bee8 Operations Manager
• Contribute to biodiversity and sustainability actions, including pollinator-friendly planting, environmental improvement projects and collaboration with local partners.
• Provide regular updates to the Bee8 Operations Manager, and short written updates and images to the Social Enterprise Manager.
• Support with honey production activities
Preferred Experience and Skills
The ideal candidate will have:
Practical beekeeping experience- desirable but not essential.
Drivers Licence- desirable but not essential.
Experience delivering workshops or community outreach, especially with schools or community groups – desirable but not essential.
Ability to work independently across multiple urban apiary sites
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with hive host organisations, colleagues and partner organisations
Commitment to health and safety, including safe handling of bees, equipment, and public-facing activities in an urban setting.
Physical ability to lift hive components and equipment, and work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
