Disability Equality & Inclusion Managerial Training 

This CPD Accredited training equips managers to support disabled employees.  

Participants will explore the definition of disability, gain an understanding of the diverse experiences of people with disabilities, and learn the importance of using respectful and inclusive language.  

The session will cover relevant legislation and employers’ responsibilities in providing reasonable accommodations in removing barriers to participation.  

Participants will also examine disability disclosure, including how to create a supportive environment where individuals feel safe to share their needs.  

Finally, the training will outline the range of government supports and services available to assist individuals with disabilities in education, employment, and everyday life. The overall aim is to build confidence, knowledge, and practical skills to support inclusion and equal opportunities for all. 

By the end of this training, attendees will be able to: 

  • Identify the categories & models of disability  
  • Identify appropriate language and etiquette 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Work & Access Scheme 
  • Recognise the difference between reasonable and unreasonable accommodations 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of inclusive recruitment 
  • Learn the types of discrimination and relevant legislation.

Meet Your Facilitator

Deirdre O'Grady

Deirdre O’Grady is the founder of AbilityWise and an experienced disability inclusion consultant, trainer, and advocate with over 20 years of experience supporting people with disabilities across healthcare, education, employment, and community settings. 

Holding a First-Class Honours Higher Diploma in Facilitating Inclusion in Disability from University College Cork, along with qualifications in Disability Studies, Psychology, Irish Sign Language, and Mental Health in the Community, Deirdre combines extensive professional expertise with a strong commitment to promoting equality, accessibility, and inclusion. 

Deirdre also brings valuable lived experience to her work. She lives with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and severe osteoarthritis and is the parent of two neurodivergent children with autism, ADHD, and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. This unique combination of professional knowledge and personal insight allows her to deliver training that is practical, authentic, and grounded in real-world experiences. 

Through AbilityWise, Deirdre works with organisations across Ireland to build disability confidence, foster inclusive cultures, and create environments where everyone can participate and thrive.
