Running Effective Meetings

"Meetings, Bloody Meetings"*: Meetings are often regarded as frustrating and a waste of time by many people. Why is this, and can meetings become a satisfying and productive part of an organisations work?

This training will assist participants to look at their practices in planning for, the conduct at and the follow on from their meetings to enable them to maximise their value.

Board and committee meetings are where all aspects of an organisation’s work are formally shaped: decisions are made, responsibilities are agreed, actions are approved, and progress is reviewed.

This workshop offers a clear framework which can be used to turn meetings into essential drivers to give directors/committee members an appreciation of how best to use their time together to achieve their ambitions.

The workshop will cover:

  • The setting of agendas
  • What should happen at meetings
  • The importance of good minute taking and follow up.

Participants will be given a copy of a set of ‘Standing Orders’, outlining best practices for running effective meetings.

*Meetings, Bloody Meetings

In 1976, John Cleese (Monty Python, Fawlty Towers) made a training video titled ‘Meetings Bloody Meetings’. This was aimed at a business audience but it captures in a very funny way the bad and good of so many meetings. See it on YouTube.
