Remote Learning: Introduction to Dialectical Behavioural Therapy Workshop 01 February 2023

Posted on 12 Jan 2023

Date: 01 February 2023

Time: 09.30 - 16.30 CET -1

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) was founded in 1993 by Marsha Linehan, initially known as CBT for Borderline disorder.  DBT consists of a series of skills and techniques for working with personality disorders and other areas.  Many people want to familiarise themselves with these skills without necessarily becoming a DBT therapist exclusively, and the introduction course is ideal if you are thinking of taking the first step in becoming a DBT therapist or if you would like to have a better understanding of the concept before referring clients or employees to a DBT service.

Note: There is also the option of participating in an Advanced DBT workshop on completion of this training. Please check here for more details: https://www.thelearningcurve.ie/online-learning/remote-learning-advanced-dialectical-behavioural-therapy-dbt-workshop

This workshop will be delivered on Zoom and will allow you to interact with your trainer and other participants in a virtual classroom. In addition to the workshop content, there will be time built in for live discussions, question & answer sessions and skills practice. You can access the course wherever you have an internet connection; on a desktop, tablet or even a smartphone.

Suitable for:

  • Professionals who see clients in 1 to 1 sessions and wish to add DBT techniques to their set of skills.
  • People or teams working in inpatient or community settings.
  • Mental health/psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, probation officers, people working in HR or Occupational Health departments.
  • Carers for people with mental health issues.

Note: Attendees will be expected to have their cameras on during the training. This helps generate engagement and interaction with their trainer and other participants. If special circumstances mean that a participant may have to switch off their camera occasionally please let us know in advance. It is not permitted to record this workshop.

Members of The Psychological Society of Ireland and The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland can receive Learning Credits/CPD points for completing this workshop.

“I really enjoyed the fact that the delivery of the course included examples and real situations in which the skills learnt could be implemented OR would not be most suitable, along with recommendations for each section. Additionally, it was really great to go into breakrooms quite regularly to discuss the most recent topic. Considering the current circumstances with the pandemic, I think that remote learning is a great alternative option. The length of the course was appropriate, given the content, and the trainer did a wonderful job throughout the entire course.”

"Hilde was a fantastic facilitator in her ability to keep the training on track and was very genuine, inclusive and encouraging throughout. The material was engaging and well structured I came away with a clear understanding of the aims of DBT and what is involved in delivering this therapy. The course length was perfect and with adequate breaks. The remote learning suited this course and was adapted well by using breakout rooms."
