Sligo Children's Community Garden is excited to welcome you to the garden this Saturday, 8 Oct for our 2022 Harvest Party. It is a wonderful way to end the growing season by sharing some of the food we have sown, grown, nurtured and harvested throughout the year, and to spend time basking in the glow of our wonderful community, young and those with lines of many years of laughter.

We will be there to welcome you to the garden from 3pm - 5pm and will have lots of yummy food made from things we have grown this year and we would ask if you would like to bring a dish of something you've grown or something that makes you happy to bring it along and share it out amongst your friends. We will also have a fire, so bring some marshmallows.

One of the projects we worked on this year was an Elder Elder Project within our Intergenerational Project that we were able to run thanks to the Community Ireland Older Persons Fund. We made some Elderflower cordial with some of the younger children in the community and one of the grandads ( Picture Below ) He didn't know the flower was on the end of his nose!!  With this picture we entered a competition with the Sligo PPN, and fantastically we won €500 for the garden for this.Were planning on using the winnings to buy resources for the new Story Shed. The judges comments were so cute, we have to share them with you. We will have this cordial to share at the party.

Sligo Children’s Community Garden was successful in winning the Minister’s Selection category as part of the Sligo PPN Photography Competition. Your image was selected by Minister Joe O’Brien with the following comment;

“Modern Life does not always allow the learning and interaction between generations that were taken for granted in times past. This is a really important picture that facilitates the interaction and it’s impact is encapsulated beautifully in the playful pose by the Grandfather with the Elderflower on his nose!”

The other thing to announce is that we're very excited about our website which is now live! This was another strand of the funding we got from Community Ireland Older Persons Fund.

This has been a huge task to create, formulate, edit and launch and we couldn't have done it without our fab tech team who have been working in the background for many months to bring this to life. I must say, we're very proud of this and hope that you have some time to enjoy its contents. Do let us know what you think?

One of the aspects of the website is the gorgeous audio files that we were able to capture over the year of our intergenerational project, we hope they speak for themselves what a cultural delight they are. Please do have a listen to them and keep an eye out for additions in the coming months and years.
