Invitation to Drinkaware Winter 2020 Research Briefing

Why don’t we do what we know is good for us?  How can we change that?

Date: 18th November 2020

Time: 11am – 12 noon

This event will take place online via Zoom

To mark Alcohol Awareness Week, please join us for our Winter 2020 Research Briefing that will take a look at the psychology of what stops people from retaining or acting on information that’s good for them, the importance of breaking down these biases and listening, and the value of co-creating interventions to generate positive behaviour change.

At Drinkaware, we have consistent data through our Barometer series that shows awareness of the HSE low-risk weekly guidelines to be 2-3% which is at odds with the data that shows a rising interest in changing behaviour. For instance, 48% of women and 32% of men stated that they would follow HSE low-risk weekly guidelines if aware (Barometer 2020).

During this event, we ask how to bridge the two critical gaps between knowledge-intention and intention-action, and how involving people in the change is a crucial step in the process.  We are delighted to have lined up two speakers that will each deliver a 15-minute presentation that will then be followed by a Q&A session:

Talk title: How innate (confirmation, cognitive) biases and the environment we live in can stop us from retaining or digesting information and messages that are good for us

Speaker: Padraig Walsh, Behavioural Psychologist, Director ChangeAble Behaviour Solutions ltd https://www.linkedin.com/in/behavioursupportspecialist/

Talk Title: Case study of engaging and listening to the public: Save the Children Early Years Programme, Northern Ireland

Speaker: Ben Caspersz, Behaviour Change Expert, Founder and Managing Director Claremont Comms (UK) https://claremontcomms.com/author/bencaspersz/
