24 April - Let’s Raise Intergenerational Awareness: A Sociology Discussion
Please attend an upcoming Sociology discussion about ageism and intergenerational practice to celebrate the first day of Global Intergenerational Week 2023!
The theme of the day is: “Let’s Raise Intergenerational Awareness”. The event is set to take place on 24 April from 2pm to 4pm and will be held in room CG04, DCU Glasnevin Campus. The discussion will be coordinated by our Sociology lecturer, Ursa Kapler.
The purpose of this discussion is to explore the complex subject of intergenerational relations and to gain insights from both younger and older individuals. The panel will include AFU participants and younger students, each providing their unique perspectives and experiences on the topic.

25 April – Beyond the Number: Exploring Age-Related Bias in Finance and Insurance
DCU Age-Friendly University is delighted to host a discussion “Beyond the Number: Exploring Age-Related Bias in Finance and Insurance" in collaboration with the Irish Senior Citizens Parliament. This event will celebrate the theme “Let’s build Intergenerational Partnerships” of Global Intergenerational Week.
This event will discuss age inequalities in finance, insurance, and lending, balancing the expertise between advocacy and more practical aspect of cybersecurity and financial literacy.
Niamh Kavanagh and Pat Fitzgerald from the ISCP and Caroline McGroary from DCU Business School will talk about their experience with this matter and raise awareness about this issue to promote greater equality in financial services.
Whether you're a financial professional or simply interested in the topic, join us for a conversation on achieving fairness in finance for people of all ages.
The event will take place on Tuesday, 25 April, in Room CG04, DCU Glasnevin Campus in Dublin, Ireland from 2:30pm to 4pm.

26 April – Games Night
DCU Age-Friendly University invites you, your friends, and your family to take part in an Intergenerational Games Night, which has been organised in partnership with Hasbro Games.
The event will take place in the Hive in the U Building, DCU Glasnevin Campus from 6 - 8pm on Wednesday, 26 April.
Light refreshments will be served along with a few Prizes, so dust off your dice and get perfecting your fine logic skills.
The evening promises to be fun and full of emotions and will be a perfect opportunity to make new friends.

27 April - Living and Learning Together in Dublin City
DCU Age-Friendly University and Localise Youth Volunteering are pleased to host together the event "Living and Learning Together in Dublin City".
This event is designed to bring together younger and older people to share their experiences of living and studying in Dublin and to celebrate day 4 of Global Intergenerational Week 2023.
Participants will have the opportunity to interview each other, comparing what life in Dublin was like then vs. now.
The event is organised in collaboration with Localise Youth Volunteering and their group of younger people from Swords. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, socialise, learn from each other, and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.
The event will take place on 27 April from 6:30pm to 8pm at DCU Alpha Campus and is limited to 20 people.

28 april – Launch of Sociology Pamphlet “Reframing an attitude to ageing”.
Last year, the European Commission introduced a Green Paper to initiate a comprehensive policy discussion on the challenges and benefits of Europe's ageing population.
The green paper frames the ageing debate by highlighting the scope and rate of demographic changes in our society, as well as the implications for our policies and the questions we must ask ourselves to address them. This covers a wide range of themes, from encouraging healthy lifestyles and lifelong learning to improving health and care systems to meet the needs of an ageing population.
What is the status of this Green Paper now? What has happened in the past year? Join Charlotte Haentzel, member of the cabinet of the European Commission in a webinar as she gives us an update on the EU Green Paper on Ageing, focusing on Intergenerational solidarity and lifelong learning.
The event will take place on Friday 28 April from 11am to 12pm and will celebrate the 5th day of Global Intergenerational Week 2023.
