Community Recycler wins National Environmental Award

The Pakman Awards, operated by Repak, are the national environmental awards that recognise excellence in sustainability, recycling and waste management among businesses, organisations, and community groups in Ireland.

Recycle IT is a community recycler led by a volunteer board. The team at Recycle IT offer a range of recycling services and initiatives in the community while also increasing awareness of the importance of recycling. Recycle IT operate a collection service and recycling facility that helps sort, categories, store, and even breakdown some waste electronic materials for reuse and recycling.

Over several years Recycle IT have offered a mattress recycling initiative in association with South Dublin County Council which aims to safely recycle mattresses of all sizes during eight to ten weeks between August and October. The service is offered free to households and saves mattresses from potential incineration to allow fabric and metal parts to be extract and recovered for reuse.

Recycle IT is delighted to receive the Pakman Community Recycling Initiative Award for 2023 sponsored by the Department of Environment, Climate and Communications. It is a great acknowledgement of the hard work of our team and those people wishing to recycle safely.

Recycle IT as a social enterprise is part funded by the community service programme and generates earned income through a range of recycling services. Recycle IT has been operating for more than 20 years and is staffed by core team of full-time staff, community employment participants and TUS workers all with an interested learning new skills which can be transferred into full time employment opportunities.
