Dublin City Volunteer Centre (DCVC) is the ‘one-stop-shop’ for volunteering in the Dublin City area. We are a registered charity in Ireland and a member of Volunteer Ireland and the network of 29 Volunteer Centres nationally.

The Role

Job Title:                    Organisation Development & Communications Officer  

Reporting to:             Deputy Manager

Location:                    Unit 4, Whitefriars, Aungier Street, Dublin 2 & remote (blended)

Hours:                         35 hrs/ week (12 month fixed-term contract)

Salary:                        €36,433.44 to €44,630.96 per annum 

Overview of the role

The Organisation Development and Communications Officer is a newly developed role that blends support to volunteer-involving organisations (VIOs) and communications expertise to enhance Dublin City Volunteer Centre's engagement with VIOs across Dublin City. This role focuses on driving strategic communication efforts, building and strengthening relationships with organisations, developing relationships with new organisations, promoting best practices in volunteer management, sharing resources and promoting good volunteering practice. 

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Organisation Development and Capacity Building:

  • Engage with new VIOs, assessing their needs and ensuring they understand DCVC’s services and support for volunteer programmes.
  • Develop and implement strategies to strengthen relationships with VIOs, offering tailored advice, resources, and training on volunteer management best practices.
  • Support VIOs in creating diverse and inclusive volunteering opportunities across various sectors and geographical areas.
  • Collaborate with VIOs to design and deliver capacity-building events, including training sessions, workshops, and Volunteer Leadership Training.
  • Promote and lead the implementation of quality standards for the management and engagement of volunteers across Dublin City.
  • Ensure VIOs are informed about relevant events, sector developments, and DCVC updates via email, website, social media, and other communication channels.

Communications and Engagement:

  • Lead DCVC’s communications efforts to maintain a consistent brand and voice across all platforms, ensuring alignment with DCVC’s strategic goals and the National Volunteering Strategy.
  • Develop and oversee the DCVC communications strategy
  • Work to share resources, insights, and best practices with VIOs and other stakeholders.
  • Manage and maintain DCVC’s website as a key source of information for volunteer management and engagement.
  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns, including the National Volunteering Week campaign and other strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee and manage volunteer communication strategies, ensuring regular updates and recognition of volunteer contributions.

Collaboration and Strategic Initiatives:

  • Work closely with external partners to promote best practices and innovation in volunteer management.
  • Collaborate with management and external stakeholders to identify opportunities for strategic initiatives that further DCVC’s objectives in volunteer support and organisational engagement.
  • Actively participate in team discussions and peer learning activities to drive continuous improvement and collaboration within DCVC.

Management

  • Provide line management to and oversight of the Organisation Support Officer
  • Provide support and management to volunteers engaged with the Organisation Support team.

Person Specification

Essential Skills:

  • Strong experience in organisational development and building capacity in the voluntary sector.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience in developing and implementing communication strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and support organisations to enhance volunteer management practices.
  • Experience in delivering training and workshops to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in digital communication tools, including websites, social media, and e-newsletters.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable Skills: 

  • Knowledge of Dublin City’s voluntary sector and the challenges faced by volunteer-involving organisations.
  • Experience with volunteer management software and CRM packages (especially Salesforce) and familiarity with GDPR best practices for managing organisational relationships and communications.
  • Experience in managing and working with a small team of staff and volunteers
