Community Law & Mediation is recruiting for a Part time Legal Officer - Centre for Environmental Justice.
This fixed-term position would be ideal for a person seeking experience in environmental and climate law and who enjoys working in a fast-paced organisation. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work towards ensuring that climate change and other environmental issues are addressed, whilst also making progress towards equality and the protection and realisation of human rights.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting the environmental justice legal team to provide legal advice and representation to clients in the area of Environmental Justice.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the progression of environmental and climate cases
- Legal research on environmental and climate law, and contribution to the policy and law reform work of the Centre for Environmental Justice
- Provide administrative support to the Environmental Justice Legal Team including preparing briefs and filing documents in court
- Maintain client files and records in line with file management procedures using KeyHouse
- Attend Court and client/counsel meetings with the Environmental Justice legal team
- Such other tasks as may be necessary to assist with the work of the Centre for Environmental Justice.
Person Specification
Essential
- Degree in law or other relevant third level qualification
- Outstanding research skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proven organisational and administration skills with good attention to detail
- Strong IT skills, proficiency in MS Office
- Ability to meet targets and work to deadlines
- Strong ability to work effectively as a member of a team
- Responsive and adaptive to a dynamic work environment.
Desirable
- Experience working in a legal office
- Demonstrated interest in the social justice and/or environmental or climate relevant sectors.
