Reporting to:   Head of Operations

Contract:        Indefinite Duration

Hours:             37.5 hours per week (typical hours 08:30 – 17:00, Monday to Friday)

Salary:             €48,000 DOE

About the Job:

To manage and lead the FoodCloud Galway Hub, ensuring excellent operations and services for charity and food business partners whilst growing impact and engagement across the west and north west as part of the national food redistribution network. The Manager is primarily responsible for operational excellence, inventory accuracy, and team safety, while adopting a continuous improvement approach and outreach and engagement with the local community to drive FoodCloud’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan.

While the role is responsible for strong delivery of our services and leadership and support for the team, the Manager also serves as the strategic lead and face of FoodCloud in the Galway region, fostering partnerships that drive local social & environmental impact and community resilience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence: Full day-to-day responsibility for running the Galway Warehouse, ensuring high-efficiency redistribution, inventory integrity, and workflow optimization using FoodCloud’s internal systems.
  • Compliance & Safety: Maintain a "safety-first" gold-standard environment for food safety (HACCP), health and safety, and security for all staff, volunteers, and visitors.
  • People & Culture: Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing hub team, providing structured development for core staff, community workscheme participants, and volunteers.
  • Regional Leadership: Serve as the primary representative for FoodCloud in the Galway region, building trust through active community engagement and storytelling.
  • Strategic Partnerships: Proactively manage and grow relationships with local food suppliers, community organisations, funders, action groups and other partners to expand the regional redistribution ecosystem and grow social and environmental impact.

Principal Accountabilities:

Operations, Logistics & Digitisation

  • Workflow Management: Coordinate all warehouse activities, shift rotas, and daily activities of the Galway Warehouse. Ensure that all shifts are planned, controlled, and filled to ensure full operational coverage.
  • Inventory Control: Lead the use of the Warehouse Management System (WMS), ensuring total inventory levels are accurate by conducting regular stock takes and ensuring data captured on the WMS is comprehensive and correct.
  • National Logistics: Coordinate closely with the Supply and Demand team to facilitate stock redistribution and ensure national supply-chain efficiency.
  • Fleet Management: Working closely with the Transport team to ensure all vehicles are roadworthy, comply with all legislative requirements (taxed and insured etc.), and are managed effectively for daily logistics.
  • Program Compliance: Oversee the delivery of the ESF+ (European Social Fund Plus) program, ensuring all administrative, operational, and handling procedures meet compliance requirements associated with the program.

Health & Safety, Food Safety & Compliance

  • Regulatory Lead: Act as the designated person responsible for Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and facility security in Oranmore.
  • Food Safety Management: Ensure compliance in the Galway Hub with all FoodCloud Hubs policies and procedures and industry standards as required by food donors and regulators, most notably in ensuring compliance with our Food Safety Management System.
  • Audit Readiness: Maintain the facility in a state of constant audit-readiness for food safety or health & safety officials, donors, and internal governance reviews.
  • Role Model: Exemplify the need to put safety first in everything that we do and role model how we should deliver services and operational activities.

People, Culture & Leadership

  • People Management: Build and sustain a high-performing engaged Hub team by providing clear direction and support, stretch targets, and regular reviews to manage all levels of performance. Ensure appropriate performance review, development, and succession management processes are operating effectively to develop and retain FoodCloud core staff. Communicate clearly and positively to ensure the team understands their role in delivering our strategy.
  • Leadership: Be a role model for our values and mission, leading with kindness and fostering and supporting a diverse team and positive work environment.
  • Training & Onboarding: Work with the Volunteer team and Head of Operations to recruit and induct volunteers and other work placement trainees to the operations of the Galway Warehouse. Identify training needs for the Hub team as required, specifically regarding food safety and Health & Safety Management Systems.
  • Agile Culture: Cultivate a workplace environment that is inclusive, purpose-led, and capable of adapting to the fast-paced growth of the 2026-2030 strategy.

Community Engagement & Regional Partnerships 

  • Brand Advocacy: Represent FoodCloud at regional events, networking forums, and donor and charity engagements to elevate the organisation's mission in the West of Ireland.
  • Community Impact: Lead site visits to charity partners to assess impact, capture human-centered stories, and maximise service to meet local needs.
  • Donor Onboarding: Support the growth of the regional donor base (SMEs, local producers, and farms) through the promotion of the Hub model as well as tech led self-service and subscription models.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Experience: At least 3-5 years of management experience in warehouse operations, food distribution, or high-volume logistics or B2B or B2C services.
  • Operational Rigour: Proven ability to manage complex schedules, inventory systems (WMS), and compliance frameworks (HACCP).
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to act as a public representative of the brand to donors and community leaders.
  • Credentials: A clean full class B driver's license and a valid forklift truck license.
  • Decision Maker: A problem-solver who can lead a diverse team (staff, community workscheme participants, and volunteers) under operational pressure.

Desirable:

  • Local Insight: Established connections within the Galway community or regional food industry and drive to engage, raise awareness and grow FoodCloud Galway's network and impact
  • Technical Aptitude: Experience with warehouse and / or operational platforms such as warehouse management, logistics and CRM systems, and experience and interest in implementing digital transformation
  • Flexibility: A willingness to balance hands-on warehouse work with high-level strategic representation and community engagement.

Requirements: 

  • Jobholder must hold, or be willing to gain, Level 3 in Food Safety in Catering.
