BACKGROUND
A cancer diagnosis is often frightening, challenging and isolating. For children, it can mean months of intensive treatment, disruption to education, and strain on friendships and mental health. For siblings, it can lead to feelings of being overlooked during an already difficult time. For parents, it can place enormous pressure on relationships, finances, and the ability to maintain everyday family life.
Cancer Fund for Children exists to respond to these realities - it supports children and young people impacted by cancer, and their families, across the island of Ireland. The organisation recognises that beyond essential medical care, there is a wider emotional and social impact on the whole family. Its work focuses on helping families navigate this experience and rebuild family life during and after treatment. Each year, the organisation supports over 1,000 families, supporting children and young people who are either diagnosed with cancer or living with a parent with cancer.
Support is provided in hospital, at home, in the community, and through therapeutic short breaks at Daisy Lodge. The organisation takes a flexible, compassionate, and young person-led approach, ensuring that support is tailored to each family’s needs.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Cancer Fund for Children is now recruiting a new Director of Development to lead its income generation across the island of Ireland.
This role will play a key part in helping the organisation deliver on its ambition that no child faces cancer alone. Building on strong foundations, the Director of Development will focus on growing sustainable income, deepening partnerships and supporting the organisation’s continued expansion.
Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Executive Leadership Team and Board, this is a senior leadership role with real influence. You’ll lead and support a high-performing team, strengthen existing income streams and develop new ones — particularly across major donors, corporate partnerships and individual giving. There is a clear opportunity to grow income in the Republic of Ireland while continuing to build on the strong base already in place in Northern Ireland.
You’ll bring a strong track record in fundraising, with experience delivering ambitious income strategies and building lasting relationships with donors and partners. Just as importantly, you’ll be motivated by the work itself and the difference it makes to children, young people and families.
If you’re a senior fundraising leader with a strong track record of growing income, cultivating and stewarding high-value relationships, and leading teams, we’d love to hear from you!
