Latin America Development Issues Talk: Online Activism - 14 Oct

Posted on 6 Oct 2020

The Department of Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American Studies at University College Cork and the Latin American Solidarity Centre at Dublin cordially invite you to an online discussion on digital cultural activism in the Americas.

The event will discuss the role of internet and social media in the articulation of transnational networks of activist intervention in times of global confinement. It will deal with the challenges and possibilities of mobilising and managing community movements online.

The discussion will integrate three speakers:

  • Dr. Cara Levey (UCC) will deal with issues of digital memory activism.
  • Lila Monasterios (Salvagina, Bolivia) will talk about the context in Bolivia, the technological and political obstacles that the government has imposed, and how activists managed them to continue their work.
  • Narella Forte, activist and member of @quesealey_dublin collective, will explain her experience with activism abroad, and how technology can facilitate creating these solidarity networks.
