Charity founder, campaigner, podcast host and author Ruairí McKiernan is currently hosting a popular series of free online conversation events in partnership with community organisations, universities, and embassies in Ireland and globally. The uplifting 1-hour events explore Ruairí's no.1 bestselling book Hitching for Hope - a Journey into the Heart and Soul of Ireland and include a short background talk, readings, and an audience discussion on themes such as community, connection, creativity, courage, kindness, and hope.

Hitching for Hope is a powerful and honest reflection of a hitchhiking listening tour Ruairí undertook around Ireland during Ireland's last recession while he was contemplating the prospect of emigration. The book is also a revealing memoir reflecting on his 20 years’ work in the non-profit sector and it is a timely celebration of the value of community spirit, kindness and collective action in today’s troubled world. The book has received widespread praise from readers and reviewers alike and has been championed by the likes of Christy Moore, Peggy Seeger, Frances Black, Damien Dempsey, Lynn Ruane, Patricia Scanlan, Joanna Macy, Bill McKibben and more.

McKiernan was previously named by the Ashoka global foundation as one of the top changemakers in Ireland. He is the founder of the pioneering SpunOut.ie national youth organisation, a Fulbright Fellow, a regular contributor to the national media, and host of the chart-topping Love and Courage podcast. In 2012, he was appointed to Ireland’s Council of State by President Michael D Higgins where he served a 7-year term.

Hitching for Hope - A Journey into the Heart and Soul of Ireland is available from bookshops nationally and as in ebook and audiobook formats from the usual outlets. For more information on the book and to register for the free events visit www.hitchingforhope.com
