Culture Night Dublin returns on Friday, 17 September with over 200 participating venues, and more than 250 free in-person and online events across the city and county.

The programme was launched on Tuesday, 17 August, at Dublin's Liberty Lane, in the presence of Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland and our Culture Night Dublin Ambassador, Ola Majekodunmi. Pictured above are the artists from Irish Modern Dance Theatre who delivered a vibrant performance on the day. Speaking at the launch, Lord Mayor Gilliland invited citizens to come and be inspired:

“After what has been a deeply challenging period, particularly for the creative sector, I’m deeply honoured to launch the programme for Culture Night Dublin. Originating in Dublin’s Temple Bar in 2006, Culture Night has grown to become a major celebration of the city's culture, creativity and heritage. The last 18 months has shown that culture is more important in our lives than ever. Dublin is a city with culture at its core, and culture allows us collectively to explore and make sense of events, such as the pandemic. The 2021 Programme presents an opportunity to start this process of understanding, for us to reconnect with each other and to reacquaint ourselves with our capital city’s magnificent cultural resources. I would encourage Dublin’s citizens and visitors to come and be inspired this Culture Night.”

Irish Modern Dance Theatre will be performing their newly commissioned work, Street Symphony, both in-person and online at this year's event. This new work is one of three Dublin City Council funded commissions for the upcoming programme entitled Dublin Holds My Mind. You can read more about our other commissioned artists below.

As always, we would like to extend our thanks to Dublin City Council and The Arts Council for their continued work in making sure that Culture Night Dublin happens each year, and grá mór to the many artists and venues who are once again gearing up in preparation for the 2021 programme. Thank you to Dublin Bus for partnering with us again this year to bring audiences to and from their favourite venues for free on the night. You can read more about the free bus routes below.
