Open Door Day Centre

Open Door is a charitable trust founded in 1984 and although based in Bray our catchment area covers North Wicklow and South County Dublin. Open Door is run by a Board of Trustees on a non-denominational basis.  The Trust ensures that Open Door Day Centre is run in an open and transparent manner.  Rudy Montejo, Manager, and Suzanne Cox, Development Officer, are available to reassure supporters with any queries on funding or allocation of funds.

Member Q&A

What is your goal?

We are committed to quality and training, and to providing inclusive and empowering activities for people with physical and sensory disabilities in a welcoming, encouraging, and social environment. We aspire to be the best in our field, providing person-centered activities; taking into consideration each person’s physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing; and ensuring that every adult with physical and sensory disabilities in our community has access to our service.

How have you been working towards it?

The Open Door team ensures that each member has access to the many activities available at the Centre. The staff are constantly looking at ways of improving the service.

How has being a member of The Wheel helped?

Being a member of The Wheel keeps us up to date with news in the sector and also keeps us informed of funding and training opportunities.

How can people support you?

People can support Open Door through donations of funds and/or materials and equipment for activities and also through volunteering at the Centre. They can also support Open Door by sharing stories and posts on social media.

Do you have any success stories to share?

One of our stories from 2020 involved Peter, one of our members. This man has a physical condition that means he has mobility problems. Last May, during lockdown, he decided to walk 6,000 steps per day to raise funds for the Centre. He was aware that all regular fundraising events had been cancelled and thought that he could help. He took great pride in his achievements and improved his mobility through this regular walking. He raised over €20,000 for Open Door which was a great help with COVID-19 associated costs.
