Member Q&A

What is your goal?

THE Bright Programme is a Team of Psychologists, Counsellors and Psychotherapists and who work with the students and staff at The Trinity Comprehensive School, Ballymun, Dublin 9. THE Bright Programme offers a range of therapeutic interventions to the whole school community. We provide student counselling, staff psychological support, staff training, organisational consultancy, group work and clinical psychological interventions to students. THE Bright Programme is funded by Dublin City Council (DCC) following the former Ballymun Regeneration Programme. The Bright Programme is a unique service within the Post-Primary School Community in Ireland.

How have you been working towards it?

The Bright Programme has been operational since 2010 and has adapted and adjusted the suite of services in line with what is required at any given time - but has a person centred approach at all times putting the psychological needs of the people in the school to the forefront at all times.

How has being a member of The Wheel helped?

It is great to be part of the wider network of community and voluntary groups/organisations as the work that we do is part of a larger matrix of supports to the wider Ballymun community and we are always greater than the sum of the parts when we all work together.

How can people support you?

Core funding is the backbone of any organisation and we would always welcome partnership with funders who value the provision of quality and targeted psychological support to young people. We can be contacted through our website for any discussions around funding and partnerships.

Do you have any success stories to share?

We are a private and confidential service, so we tend not to seek too much "fanfare" to protect those who use the service. We maintain a steady and consistent presence in the school and value that understated yet solid position where people know they can trust the service and it is there for them when they need the support.  Each Year 23 % of the students have individual counselling each year with the Bright Programme and 30% of the students receive class /group support/training.  We also provide Clinical educational & psychological assessments – up to 20 students per year have tailored assessments.    All staff avail of individual and group support and information sessions.
