Intercultural Awareness & Communication Workshops

Posted on 9 Dec 2020 Last updated on 15 Dec 2020

Increasing intercultural awareness at all levels of an organisation helps to break down communication barriers and reduces miscommunication, whether between members of a team, or between an organisation’s staff and their clients from different cultural backgrounds.

The Irish Council for International Students’ Introduction to Intercultural Awareness & Communication workshop encourages participants to explore their own assumptions and preconceptions about other cultures, highlights how their own cultural heritage affects their world views, values and assumptions, and focuses on how the way we communicate, verbally and non-verbally, is influenced by culture. Participants will learn about intercultural communication theory and how this can be applied in their everyday interactions.

The workshop is interactive, with group exercises and scenarios used to work through some of the issues that are frequently encountered in intercultural communications. By the end of the session, participants will understand how culture affects the way we all communicate and will be able to recognise the importance of verbal and non-verbal behaviour when communicating across cultures so that they can improve interactions and minimise miscommunications.

Delivered online over 3 hours for in-house groups of up to 20 employees, the workshop is now available to member organisations of The Wheel at our reduced rate.
