Volunteer with SERVE in Summer 2023

Posted on 14 Nov 2022

Irish based overseas volunteering charity SERVE is now recruiting for their 2023 summer Volunteer Programme.

Participants can choose to volunteer abroad or locally with a hybrid experience. The SERVE Volunteer Programme has returned after three years with flexible options for individuals to participate at the grassroots and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals.

SERVE alumni and Barrister (via Psychology) Dianne Duggan explains, “Choosing how, or if, you should volunteer overseas can be tricky: are you genuinely serving the communities? Is there a measurable impact? Is the process safe, monitored and transparent? SERVE are a brilliant organisation to work with and have an impeccable record.”

Eligibility:

  • SERVE is looking for individuals age 18+
  • Not in fulltime second level education
  • You are willing to get stuck in
  • You enjoy working with a diverse group of like-minded people.

Galway based Aubrey Hennesey volunteered with SERVE in 2017 in Mozambique at a technical training school called Young Africa. Aubrey describes the experience as “life changing” and also said, “SERVE works in solidarity with partners in Mozambique so you feel like you’re doing actual help that is appreciated.”

What's in the SERVE 2023 Volunteer Programme?

  • The SERVE 2023 Volunteer Programme offers 4 weeks overseas volunteering opportunities in Zambia, Mozambique and India.
  • Participants also have the option to volunteer locally clubbed with a hybrid experience with their partners in Zambia.
  • All participants will receive Global Citizenship Education in preparation for their placements.

SERVE’s Global Citizenship and Volunteer Coordinator, Nollaig Hulme says, “SERVE has always centred the Volunteer Programme on promoting the 17 Global Goals. The 2023 Programme harnesses the learnings from the pandemic to strengthen our solidarity with the communities our partners work in. Participants of this programme will gain fresh perspectives on how deeply interconnected we all are as well as understand the value of their actions.”

SERVE invites people from all backgrounds and experiences to apply to the 2023 Volunteer Programme.
