The Wheel is committed to transparency and clear accountability in our operations.

Overview

We subscribe to a range of good practice standards. We are fully complaint with the Charities Regulator’s Charities Governance Code, the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) for our annual reporting, and all guidelines and recommendations for charities published by the Charities Regulator. This website is one of our main channels for transparency.

In order to make information about important things like finances and salaries as easy as possible to find, we provide the most pertinent points from the Trustees Report and the Audited Accounts from 2024 below.

Income -Financial performance and income diversification

In 2024 statutory income, funding from other public sources and earned income from membership, training delivery and other programmes performed strongly.

The main differences between income for 2024 of €3.03m and €2.98m in 2023 were

  • Increase in earned income from membership of approximately €58,805
  • Funding of €82,333 for a range of new programmes including Inspire, Tranforming Local Leadership and RISE

Expenditure

The major elements of expenditure in 2024 were salary costs related to

  • Member services, training, information provision, research and advocacy for the sector
  • Implementation of the National Training Fund Sector Skills programme of training and supports

Salaries

The average number of persons employed by The Wheel in 2024 was 29.

5 senior employees earned remuneration (salaries and any benefits in kind, excluding employer’s pension costs) in excess of €60,000 (please see table 1 below).

Senior management comprised of the CEO, Director of Advocacy and Research, Director of People and Programmes, Director of Development and Member Services, and Director of Finance and Operations.

The Chief Executive Officer was the highest earning employee and the remuneration package was comprised as follows (please see table 2 below).

Trustee Remuneration

The trustees give their services free of charge and are not compensated for their work.

The Wheel operates a policy of reimbursing trustees and subcommittee members for out of pocket expenses.
