Summary of the role
Roma Engagement Worker for the Preparation for Preschool Programme
The Roma Engagement Worker will support the work of the Preparation for Preschool Programme in Mulhuddart. The role will involve the engagement of Roma families, offering support to children who will be starting preschool the following year, and their parents. The worker will support the day-to-day activities of the programme, working directly with children and their parents.
This is a fixed term contract & it is a part-time position (10 hours per week) Days worked to be agreed.
The position will be based in Mulhuddart.
Responsibilities of the role
- Support children in developing skills that promote readiness for preschool and future learning.
- Create a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for children and families.
- Observe, monitor and support children’s development and progress.
- Build trusting relationships with parents, caregivers and families through respectful, empowering and non-judgmental practice.
- To comply with child safeguarding guidelines, duties and practices.
- Support families to establish positive routines, structures and habits that benefit children’s wellbeing and learning.
- Assist families to engage with local services and community resources.
- Promote effective communication between families, the service and other relevant agencies.
- Participate in meetings, reviews, planning sessions and relevant training opportunities.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be required.
Requirements
Essential Requirements:
Applicants should ideally have:
- Experience working with children and families in community, family support or early years settings.
- Knowledge or an interest in learning about child development and early childhood learning.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with children, families, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and with the wider team.
- Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusive practice.
- Garda Vetting and Children First training.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience working in an intercultural setting.
- Fluency in English and Romani language.
- A strong understanding of community development and family support approaches.
- Training in parenting, child development, early years development or other related field.
