Communications Network: Responding to Anti-NGO Sentiment

16 Sep 2026
Dublin
10:30 am - 12:00 pm

The Wheel’s Communications Network will meet on Wednesday, 16 September, from 10.30am–12pm at the Carmelite Community Centre in Dublin 2, for a timely discussion on how NGOs and charities can respond effectively to growing anti-NGO sentiment, misinformation and hostility directed towards the sector.

The Wheel’s Communications Member Network is open to anyone working or volunteering in communications within a member organisation of The Wheel. The network is open to communications professionals, as well as anyone who has a communications element as part of their role.

We’re delighted to welcome Edel McGinley, Executive Director of the Hope and Courage Collective, as our special guest speaker. Edel will share insights from her extensive experience working with communities, organisations and institutions to strengthen democracy and build collective resilience in the face of rising far-right hate and disinformation.

With more than 20 years’ experience as a community worker, organiser, campaigner and strategist, Edel has led and advocated for progressive change across Ireland. She will explore how organisations can navigate an increasingly challenging communications environment, respond to hostile narratives, and build public understanding and support for the vital work of the NGO sector.

The session will also provide an opportunity for communications professionals across The Wheel’s network to share experiences, challenges and approaches, and to consider how we can collectively communicate the value and impact of the sector.

Join us for an open and free conversation about responding to division, challenging misinformation and strengthening the public narrative around the essential role NGOs play in Irish society.
