This three-hour session, drawn from Joe Houghton’s new book 100 ways AI can help… Charities and Non-profits, shows you what’s worth doing, what to leave alone, and how to start on Monday without spending anything. It stays on the free tiers, because that’s where most charities have to live, and it’s straight about what AI gets wrong.

- Getting started safely — choosing a tool, turning off data sharing, and keeping donor and beneficiary information out of public chatbots
- Planning and piloting — the small first project that brings your board with you, and how to measure it candidly
- Grants and funder research — finding funders that fit, decoding guidelines, drafting and checking an application
- Communications and fundraising — appeals, newsletters, and telling a service user’s story with consent and dignity
- Governance — board papers trustees will read, a first-pass risk register, and the questions your board should be asking about AI
- Safeguarding and data protection — GDPR in practice, and the material that never goes near a free tool
- Paying or not — what roughly €20 a month buys, and the non-profit programmes that cost nothing at all
What you’ll be able to do afterwards
- Write a reusable profile of your charity and set standing instructions, so every tool you use already knows who you are and how you write
- Turn off data sharing in the tools your team uses, and evidence it for your policy file
- Run a five-question fact-check on anything AI has drafted before it reaches a funder, a donor or the public
- Say which of your tasks are safe for a free tool and which need a paid seat with a data agreement behind it
- Leave with a one-page set of AI ground rules you can put to your board at the next meeting
