Summary of the role

We are seeking a strategic and highly organised HR and Volunteer Manager to lead on fostering staff wellbeing, continuing to develop staff competencies and growing the organisation’s volunteering programme. The role will support the 28-person staff team with HR and will manage Belong To’s 50+ volunteers. 

Responsibilities of the role

Human Resources 

  • Coordinate the recruitment, selection and induction of new staff. 
  • Run quarterly meetings for all line managers which include relevant management training, policy updates and a chance to share experience and learn from peers. 

 

  • Organise monthly meetings of Belong To’s whole team including the agenda, internal and external speakers, venue and catering. 

 

  • Review and update HR policies, procedures and templates in line with employment legislation and best practice. 
  • Manage all HR administration for staff recruitment, contracts, timesheets, leave, personnel records, driving for work and staff development. 
  • Act as the first point of contact for staff with queries relating to Belong To’s HR Management and Information Systems (HR Locker, Xink, Salesforce) 
  • Support managers with performance management, probation management and any employee relations matters. 
  • Engage with external HR support, occupational health and/or legal advice as needed on HR matters. 
  • Complete monthly preparations for payroll by notifying the Director of Operations of any new starters, leavers, salary changes or unpaid leave. 
  • Support the Director of Finance with managing the non-Senior Leadership Team salary budget, including managing any starters, leavers or salary changes. 
  • Manage the staff training, staff wellbeing and recruitment budgets. 
  • Support the CEO, Director of Operations and Governance, and the wider Senior Leadership Team to develop and maintain a collaborative and effective staff team. 
  • Support the CEO and Director of Operations and Governance with developing and delivering projects on succession planning, staff retention, staff wellbeing and staff competencies. 

 

Volunteer Management 

  • Recruit, select, train, support and supervise all youth engagement volunteers (10-15 volunteers) who support our youth workers to run youth groups for LGBTQ+ young people, events volunteers (30+ volunteers) who support us with fundraising and community events and corporate or once-off volunteers. 
  • Maintain and manage a Volunteers Database, overseeing data collection and reporting. 
  • Ensure best practice in our volunteering programme through reviewing and updating policies, procedures and risk assessments relating to volunteering activities. 
  • Work in partnership with different teams to plan for volunteering needs and recruitment. Develop and implement effective strategies to recruit volunteers with the right skills to match the needs of the organisation. 
  • Deliver and expand on Belong To’s work experience programme for Transition Year students.  
  • Assess available resources and develop budgets for volunteer programme activities. 
  • Conduct evaluations of programmes and services delivered by volunteers and implement improvements where identified.

Requirements

Essential 

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills. 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Ability to identify training needs and develop and deliver training to meet those needs. 
  • Strong understanding of employment legislation and best practise in HR policies, procedures and templates. 
  • Ability to work in different environments with a wide range of people. 
  • Excellent organisational skills and a proven ability to multitask, prioritise, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Ability to take the initiative and work independently, while also contributing positively as part of a team. 
  • Willingness to work flexible hours. 
  • Commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion. 
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Skills. 

Highly Desirable 

  • Previous experience in a coordination or managerial role. 
  • A professional qualification in human resources. 
  • Direct experience in HR 
  • Direct experience in volunteer management 
  • Experience managing budgets. 
  • Experience managing volunteer projects or programmes.
