Community Health Worker

Role overview:

Develop LINQ’s capacity as a national community organization by assisting in strategic plan delivery and implementing community health initiatives for the LBQ community. This role offers professional growth and flexibility within Community Health.

Essential Skills/Competencies

• Understanding of issues facing LBQ people and their families.

• At least 2 years’ community development experience and a relevant third-level qualification (e.g., Community Work, Community Development, Community Health, Youth Work, Social Care or Health Promotion).

• Excellent communication, networking, and interpersonal skills.

• Proficiency in Google software and MS Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

• Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Support LINQ’s mission and vision through project and initiative delivery.

• Develop a work plan aligned with the strategic plan.

• Assist in delivering LINQ Ireland’s LGBTI+ Diversity Awareness Programme.

• Provide confidential advice and advocacy to Lesbian, Bi, and Queer women on health issues.

• Support existing groups within LINQ.

• Produce reports and evaluations as required.

• Engage in training and upskilling.

• Provide one-to-one support for LBQ service users.

• Collaborate with local, regional, and national LGBTI+ organizations.

• Facilitate and maintain groups, support networks, and information sessions.

• Identify opportunities to enhance services, partnerships, and community resources.

• Liaise with relevant organizations and agencies.

• Work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends.

• Collaborate effectively within a small team.

Desirable

• Understanding of the Irish national context (including political and socio-economic) and knowledge of the wider LGBTQ+ sector.

• Understanding of wider equity barriers (e.g. sexism, racism, migration status, ableism, socio-economic disparities) in Irish society and intersectionality.

• Experience working with small teams and/or grassroots community organisations.

• Understanding of the principles of community development and community health.

• Fundraising experience.

• Full clean drivers licence.
