Managing Challenging Conversations

3 Dec 2026
Dublin
9:30 am - 4:00 pm

Join us on Thursday 3 December for a free in-person training on understanding and developing skills in managing challenging conversations.  Ireland has changed dramatically over the past number of years. It is now a multicultural, diverse country. Recent developments in immigration have led to tensions compounded by a shortage of housing and socioeconomic disadvantage. Polarisation, fragmentation, and ‘othering’ is becoming more evident within public discourse.

These challenges hold the seeds for profound levels of breakthrough innovation while also holding the possibility of disturbance. The community and voluntary sector has a key role to play in navigating this profound change and societal disturbance. To do this requires all of us to apply a new collective leadership capacity in a more conscious, intentional, and strategic way.

These issues were amplified during the recent series of Social Cohesion Dialogues in Dublin, Galway, Cork and Limerick hosted by the Wheel. This one-day training session in Managing Challenging Conversations is a response to the challenges

Participants in the training will:

  • have an enhanced understanding and skill set in managing challenging conversations
  • generate more creative options, wiser decisions and clearer responses for the future.

The methodology will be participative, small and large groups discussion, personal reflection and skill practice.
