SpunOut Inviting Applications for Superheroes Fund
The Dark Night is not be the only superhero rising these days - young people around Ireland are also emerging as new superheroes.
SpunOut, Ireland’s leading online youth organisation, has just launched its Superheroes Fund of €4,000 which will be made available to young people all over Ireland.
"The people from SpunOut are always willing to encourage and help out with any other ideas you have. It's definitely worth a shot.”
SpunOut will provide funding to 10 projects led by young people, so that they can use their superpowers to create positive personal and social change.
Young people can apply to the fund to get their own personal and social change projects off the ground. These projects can be new ideas or existing projects.
John “SpunOutman” Buckley, SpunOut’s Youth Engagement Officer said: “There are currently over 500,000 young people in Ireland all of whom have that innate potential to be superheroes. SpunOut’s Superheroes Fund aims to support young people developing their superpowers to create positive personal and social change.”
He added: “Projects can be anything from environmental, to the arts, to health information and everything in between. We want to support young people in getting their ideas off the ground.”
A panel made up of SpunOut staff and young people will select the projects. SpunOut will provide mentoring and support for all the projects with a panel of experts from the media, youth work, campaigning and IT arenas. The overall aim of the Superheroes Fund is to support the development of ideas amongst young people.
Dan “The Blogger” O’Neill, who received superheroes funding in 2011 for his Blog Teaandtoast.ie, had encouraging words for anyone thinking of applying. “Go for it. The Superheroes Fundprovides a brilliant opportunity to invest a little money in the ideas you've had for ages but never had the chance to make a reality. The people from SpunOut are always willing to encourage and help out with any other ideas you have. It's definitely worth a shot.”
The fund is open to all 16-25 year olds living in Ireland. There will be ten projects chosen for funding of €400 each, but all those who apply to the fund will receive an exclusive invite to a SpunOut superhero convention to hone their superpowers.
The deadline for applications is 6 August, 2012 @ 6pm.
