Meet Your MEP Candidates and Help Shape Europe's Future - Galway, 23 April


With just one month to go before Ireland goes to the polls for the European Parliament election, members of the public and community groups are invited to attend a free election hustings at Meyrick Hotel in Galway on Wednesday, 23 April.

The following candidates have so far confirmed their attendance: Thomas Byrne (Fianna Fail), Matt Carthy (Sinn Féin) and Mark Deary (Green Party). The candidates will be sharing their policies on key issues such as the economy, environment and social issues, and members of the public and representatives from community and voluntary organisations will also have an opportunity to air their views.

The outcome of the meeting (which is being organised by The Wheel, a national network of 950 community and voluntary organisations in association with the European Parliament Office ) will be published and presented to the political parties and the candidates ahead of the 2014 European Parliament elections.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, Ivan Cooper, Director of Advocacy at The Wheel said: “Brussels may be a long way from Galway, but decisions taken by the European Parliament have a direct impact on local communities. This meeting is a unique opportunity for individuals and local groups to help shape the priorities of the European Parliament for the next five years,” said Mr Cooper.
