Measuring Social Impact for Charities, Nonprofits and Social Enterprises (Online workshop)
This two half-day training will equip you with the key definitions, concepts and tools necessary to successfully measure the social impact and outcomes of your activities in a structured and effective way.
Session One will introduce participants to impact measurement and how it can be applied to organisations. You will learn about how Logic Model and Theory of Change are useful approaches to clarify thinking and help illustrate activities and outcomes. Also, you will receive practical guidance and resources on measuring change.
Session Two will explain how to create an outcome framework, find outcome tools, and practical steps needed to measure change. Also, you will learn about managing an evaluation process, improving service user engagement, and supporting staff with gathering data.
For learning outcomes, you can expect to
- Understanding of the key steps involved in a social impact measurement process
- Knowledge of how logic models and Theory of Change are used to clarifying change
- Understanding of key terminology and definitions fundamental to social impact measurement
- Knowledge of the different approaches and methods used to gather outcome data and tools used to measure change
- Greater awareness of the good practice tips and approaches for supporting staff and engaging service users.
This workshop is delivered in collaboration with Social Value Ireland, a free network of individuals and organisations who are interested in changing the way Irish society accounts for value. The network was launched by The Wheel, Quality Matters, and Whitebarn Consulting, and is an associate network of Social Value International.

Meet Your Facilitator
Philip Isard is the Chief Operations Officer with Quality Matters, an independent research charity and has 10+ years working as a researcher and evaluator with charities, non-profits, social enterprises and statutory agencies. Philip has supported 50+ organisations with social impact measurement, including both evaluations and providing consultancy support with developing outcome framework and internal systems. Philip is the author of multiple Social Return on Investment evaluations is an accredited practitioner and trainer with Social Value International, as well as an Associate Faculty Member on the National College of Ireland’s Certificate in Non-Profit Leadership and Management.
