This workshop is ideal for anyone new to being a trustee, considering joining a board or would just like to revisit the basics of good trusteeship.

In this workshop we will discuss the foundations of good governance, the importance of instilling strong governance in your organisation, and the role the board/trustee plays in ensuring best governance practices.

Covering the principles of the code, this in-depth workshop is essential for anyone looking to be introduced to regulation for charities, and the role the trustee plays in the journey toward compliance. 

Participants of this event will be able to: 

  • Understand the importance of good governance and the governance responsibilities of the Board 
  • Outline the Charities Regulator's Governance Code requirements and the legal responsibilities of the trustee under the Companies Act 2014 and the Charities Governance Code 
  • Apply the code to their organisation.

Sheila

Sheila Cahill has worked in the non-profit sector in Ireland and the UK for the last 30 years and holds a Masters degree in Voluntary Sector Organisation from the London School of Economics. As Director of Training and Support Services at Carmichael Centre, she provided a governance and management training programme of 60 courses a year to the boards and staff of non-profit organisations.  She has been providing a freelance training and consultancy service since early 2008, with a particular focus on governance. In 2018 she assisted the Charity Regulator in the production of the Charities Governance Code.  Sheila is a skilled trainer and facilitator with excellent communication skills and takes a practical approach to putting governance principles into practice.
